Samsung Galaxy S8+ Three Mobile Phone-Tech Review

I was sent a Samsung galaxy S8+ from Three, to review for a few weeks.  Before we continue, I don’t want to lead anyone into false expectations; I’m not a tech blogger, I’m a Mummy, Wife and blogger/vlogger, and I’ll base my review from those points of view rather than anything “techy”.

As some of you will know, I’m a massive Apple fan.  I own the iPhone 6+ and have owned iPhones for years.
When I received the S8+, I wondered if this beaut of a phone, had the possibility of converting me back to wanting an Android!

On initial opening of the box, I was really impressed with the sleek and shiny design of the phone.  The curved screen was already an obvious feature, and I was looking forward to switching it on and having a proper nose.

The software is easy to use; after owning Android phones in the past, and my husband being a Samsung fan, I knew how to find my way around.

When I get a new phone, I tend to go straight to the camera-the quaility of a photo or video are really important to me, especially because I’m a blogger and my life is spent behind a phone taking photos for my website.

The camera is impressive.  The zoom is massively better than my iPhone’s, and the picture on full zoom is still of really good quality.

I also vlog, and, after downloading the app I use for editing, I decided to use our planned trip to the beach to use the video function.

The size of the phone itself, would be daunting to those who have upgraded from a smaller handset, but, having the iPhone 6+, the size wasn’t an issue for me.  To be honest, the size, along with the curved screen is actually pretty impressive.
With regards to the curved screen-it really would be wise to make sure you own a case for the phone before you take it out with you.  I didn’t have one, which made for some nervous trips out with it in a sock, worried that it would slip out of my hand and smash!

The battery life is also pretty good; being glued to my phone for the majority of the day (when I’m not glued to the laptop of course), means I often use a lot of battery over the course of the day.  After videoing for the best part of a day at the beach, the battery was still chugging along without need for recharge.

Speaking of charging actually, the charging time on this phone is really impressive!  Not being technology savvy, I don’t really understand how the fast charge is possible, but it doesn’t effect the length of time you get from a full charge.

My Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy S8+ really is a beautiful phone, and, in my opinion, the best Android phone out right now.
However…….
I’m unfortunately not quite converted back to Android from Apple.
I’m not sure if it’s just that I’m used to how my iPhone works, or maybe I just don’t like change.  But I also found the handset hard to hold in a way I could access all I needed to, I constantly pressed the wrong buttons on the screen because, without realising, I was holding it in a way that my thumbs touched a part they shouldn’t.

I’ve spoken to a few people with Android phones, and they thing the S8+ is amazing.  My husband, who has a Samsung, thought it was great, although, like me, he did have some issues with the size of the screen making him press wrong buttons.

Just to be down with the tech geniuses, I’ll end this review with a score!  I give the Samsung Galaxy S8+ an 8/10!

Check out some more information (that I’ve probably missed), and contract/sim options for the S8+ over on the Three website HERE.

  1. This is a really interesting post, it’s so important to get reviews on phones from people who aren’t ‘techy’ because, at the end of the day, the majority of people who use phones don’t want to get bogged down in the technical jargon. They want an honest opinion on how well the battery lasted and how easy it was to use and whether photos came out well, it makes it much easier to make a decision!
