Today is day 10 of Blogtober 2017, and the theme today is ‘Joke’.
As a blogger, regardless of how I describe what I do, and how I spend my time, I still end up being treated as a joke.
I know, I know, you didn’t expect to come over to today’s Blogtober post and read this did you!
But it’s true-I genuinely am treated and thought of as a joke.
I don’t work for a full time wage (try NO wage), I don’t leave the house every day to go to work, or work 9-5. I don’t have to put my kids into childcare and I don’t have a uniform.
However, I do, work full time, sometimes from 9:15-3, and then 6 until 11. I don’t leave the house to go to work, in fact, unless it’s a special occasion, or a school run, I don’t actually leave the house at all.
No, I don’t have to put my kids into childcare, but instead, I work in between school runs, and check and reply to emails while the kids are busy doing something or eating dinner.
I personally don’t see my job as a joke-or myself as one for that matter.
I’m good at what I do-I’m a good writer, (I’m funny too-obviously), and what’s more, I enjoy it!
Who else can say that about their work?
Where I want to be?
I don’t do this just to make myself look busy either, or to get out of applying for “real jobs”.
In fact-just as those who go out and work in an office do, I’m slowly working my way up too!
I want to write a book, be paid to write, and be a well known blogger and author.
Does that make me a joke? Try ambitious, hard working and confident in my work-not a joke.
So, for those spending their time trawling Mumsnet and commenting nonsense on the Daily Fail, slating “Mummy Bloggers” and making out that these strangers that they’re commenting on are “jokes”-remember that they’re just normal people, trying to make a living for their families, by starting from nothing-from scratch, and working all the hours god sends to make their way up their own ladder.
